Milo Openshaw's portfolio

Who am I?

My name is Milo (he/him). I'm a 24 year old writer and artist from Seattle. Thank you for visiting my website!

My current interests:

  • the vastness and unknowability of the ocean
  • love in relation to body horror, violence, and consumption
  • ethereal beauty found in mundane objects, places, and rituals
  • video games that aren't dating simulators but like... ARE dating simulators
  • mindful media consumption, critical analyzation, rigorous notetaking
  • technology from the 90s and early 2000s, especially flip phones and CDs
  • artistry and symbology of tarot cards and playing cards
  • exploring real-world philosophy through fictional characters
  • collaging multiple perspectives together to create one layered story

Influences and favorites

Games

  • Night in the Woods
  • Disco Elysium
  • Baldurs Gate 3
  • The Arcana
  • Alice: Madness Returns

Books

  • Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones
  • Please Kill Me by Gillian McCain and Legs McNeil

  • Dracula by Bram Stoker
  • The Shining by Stephen King

All of my work is deeply rooted in the queer and transgender experience. I don't want stories like mine to be reserved for the memoir section of the library-- all of my stories, no matter the genre, bring the queer experience to new worlds. I want to reimagine a better world by expanding the reaches of fiction. I'm currently working on my debut novel, and I would someday like to write a story-based video game.

Writing can and should get weirder! And I'm ready to make that happen!

I am also a self-taught artist and musician. My favorite artistic mediums right now are pen and ink, and physical collage. I also play the bass guitar and sing.

Want to contact me?

I am always interested in collaborating on all kinds of projects! I also take art and writing commissions (prices vary / are negotiable). Or just message me and say hello!

All of these photos of the beautiful Pacific ocean were taken by me on my beloved 3DS!
